Who I am
I'm Gino — a software engineer living in Barcelona. I moved to Spain on a visado de búsqueda de empleo under Law 14/2013, converted it to a full HQP/PAC residence permit, and when renewal time came around, I did what most people do: I Googled it.
What I found was a patchwork of Reddit threads, outdated blog posts, and official government pages that assume you already know the acronyms. Nobody had built a clear, end-to-end guide for the HQP/PAC track specifically. So I built one while going through the process myself.
My case — filed March 2026
I submitted my renewal application in March 2026 via the Law 14/2013 portal (expinterweb). I had the FNMT certificate, Autofirma, the four required documents, and the Tasa 790 Código 038 paid. I was ready.
Then, on 26 April 2026, UGE-CE issued a desistimiento — a declaration that my application had been archived. The reason: a technicality in how one of the documents was presented.
Desistimiento received
A desistimiento doesn't mean your residency is cancelled — it means the specific application was archived. You can immediately file a new one (subsanación) or submit a fresh application. The clock on your current TIE keeps running.
Same day — subsanación filed
I filed a subsanación the same afternoon, at 17:56 on 26 April 2026. The reference number is REGAGE26e00040556035. I expected to wait weeks, or months — the silencio administrativo window can run up to 20 business days. Instead, the resolution came the very next morning.
27 April 2026 — approved
UGE-CE issued an express resolution the following day. The Director General of Gestión Migratoria granted the renewal in full: valid from the day after my original permit expired through 13 March 2028.
Renewal granted
The resolution is legally effective immediately — no need to wait for the physical TIE card. The card appointment just has to be booked within one month of the resolution date.
The whole saga — from noticing the desistimiento to holding a valid approval — took less than 24 hours. Filing the subsanación the same day made all the difference.
What this means for you
I built RenewMyTIE because I needed it. Every part of this app — the document checklist, the business-day calculator, the status tracker, the desistimiento guide — came directly from navigating my own case. Not theory.
The key lesson from my case: if you receive a desistimiento, don't panic and don't wait. File the subsanación the same day. UGE-CE can move fast when your paperwork is in order.
The process isn't as hard as it looks — it's just hard to find clear information about it. That's the gap this fills.
